Convert M4A to MP3
For players and devices that can't play M4A: convert to MP3. M4A (AAC) is already lossy, so re-encoding costs a little more quality.

M4A vs MP3
| M4A | MP3 | |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Usually lossy (AAC) | Lossy |
| Size (per minute, 44.1 kHz stereo) | ≈ 1.9 MB | ≈ 2.4 MB |
| Tags | Full (MP4 tags) | Full (ID3 + cover) |
- M4A is already lossy; re-encoding to MP3 lowers quality a little more. Convert only if your device can't play M4A.
- A 6-minute track: M4A ≈ 11 MB, MP3 ≈ 14 MB.
- Title, artist, album, genre, year, cover art and any existing key tag are carried over to MP3. If there's no key tag, analyze first; conversion never adds a key on its own.
How to do it
- Choose your M4A files or folder (or drop them on the record).
- The output format is preset to MP3; analyze key and BPM first if you like.
- Download: a single file, a ZIP, or straight into a folder in Chrome and Edge.
FAQ
Does converting M4A to MP3 lose quality?
A little: re-encoding a lossy file to another lossy format adds loss. Convert only when you need to.
Are tags and cover art kept?
Yes. Title, artist, album, cover art and any key tag are carried over to the new file.
Are my files uploaded? Is there a limit?
No. Conversion runs in your browser and your files never leave your computer. There's no limit on file count or size.
